The Mediterranean stands out as the point on the globe where diversity is concentrated, to the point of becoming its example or laboratory. , this space knows only fragile balances that constantly require reformulations and negotiations. Also, this diversity, founded mainly on an awareness of belonging to a larger whole, today allows these border geographic areas to unite in order to anticipate certain questions integrating the plural, and also conflicting, dimensions of interculturality.
Rationale
In a context of crisis marked by an ever-increasing resurgence of hate speech and extremism, this seminar aims to create exchanges around the cultural dimension and build bridges between partners, contribute to ensuring community security against threats and violent conflicts, defend the right to cultural diversity, ensure the right to individual and collective cultural security as well as the right of expression of minorities. The current situation in the Euro-Med region requires a stronger commitment from civil society and academia to manage the new demands emerging from the region, through the involvement of the most active and innovative cultural and social actors.
Thus, the Agir Ensemble Association, leader of the Anna Lindh Foundation, and the Multidisciplinary Faculty of Cadi Ayyad University and their partners are initiating the International Observatory for the Dialogue of Civilizations and the Promotion of the Culture of Peace and Non-violence, with the ultimate goal of building trust and maintaining long-term collaboration.
Why this seminar?
1. Morocco's need for a public diplomacy strategy with all its components, including a cultural diplomacy strategy that is coherent, effective, and capable of contributing to strengthening its soft power (new development model & soft power strategy);
2. The importance of culture as a source of soft power; 3. The need to stimulate debate on the current state of Moroccan cultural diplomacy efforts with a view to adopting a coherent strategy capable of uniting all stakeholders;
The theme of this meeting was chosen as the launch conference for the International Observatory of the Dialogue of Civilizations, with the aim of aligning it with the overall vision of Morocco's new development model, which advocates the adoption of a soft power strategy while highlighting the role of culture in this area.
The organization of this seminar is intended as an opportunity to debate and encourage reflection on:
The role of culture in promoting the values of living together and intercultural dialogue
Cultural diplomacy to address current challenges in the Euro-Mediterranean region
Culture as an effective tool for dialogue in the current Euro-Mediterranean context
Cultural relations as a driving force for fostering open and fluid identities in the Mediterranean
The effectiveness of transnational cultural relations depends on the involvement of all stakeholders.
